To cope with the COVID-19 situation, the shop will close at 4.00 every day until further notice.

Draycott Community shop serves the community of Rodney Stoke and Draycott in Somerset.

We stock newspapers, bread and a very wide range of grocery and household goods, and alcohol and tobacco.

Closing the post office has released space for more products: value products price marked by the producer, the popular brands and produce from local companies. Milk can be dispensed into your own glass bottle.

The shop offers slightly better value than filling station shops and is less expensive than supermarkets for small purchases if you take into account fuel costs and convenience. And we serve you with a smile and a chat!

The shop was taken over in 2019 with the support of villagers and operates as a Community Benefit Society for the support of the community.

It is dependent on volunteers but has a part-time manager.

Draycott Community Shop is a member of the Plunkett Foundation which supports community businesses. The Foundation advised on taking on the shop when the loss of the Post Office meant that the shop was no longer viable as a conventional business.

During the COVID-19 outbreak the shop will make deliveries to those who have to self-isolate because they are over 70 or in another at-risk group.

Details of our delivery scheme and items available may be accessed as a .pdf document here. Details of assistance with other things such as prescription collection are also given.

We require additional volunteers during this period as there will be increased demand and a need to deliver as some of our usual volunteers have to self-isolate on the basis of age. If you can volunteer, even in the short-term, see volunteering.

So far over thirty people have volunteered to help. This is a pleasant place to be, at the heart of the community, the village hub as many people describe it.

All those who have volunteered say how they enjoy meeting our customers and keeping up with events at the heart of the village. If you aren't already a volunteer and would like to help serving, stocking or cleaning in the shop or collecting supplies from our wholesaler please send an e-mail to jackie@meldonandco.uk.

Some volunteers work a regular pattern but we use 'Three Rings' software and most volunteers select slots that vary to fit around their other commitments.

Draycott Community Shop was opened in 2019. It is run as a Community Benefit Society and was funded by over sixty member shareholders from the community for the benefit of the whole community. We welcome suggestions as to how we can best serve the needs of all in Rodney Stoke and Draycott.

Draycott Comunity Shop Limited operates the shop and occupies the shop on a long lease. It is a not for profit organisation and any surplus income generated will be used to support good causes for the benefit of the local community.

The shop was completely refurbished mainly by volunteers with materials provided by local businesses for a total expenditure of just 5000.
